[Note from Terry: This was the response to the letter I wrote Joanne asking if we could take part in her DesignWays methodology for design since it seemed to be organized around an Open Source concept and it applies well to the La Boca planning. Her reply follows...]
Thank you so much for your comments, it is lovely to hear that my work is of interest. I am currently working on an open source platform to allow for sharing and developing of the ideas, but this is still in the formulation stage I am afraid - maybe you would like to be one of the groups to work with on this in terms of how it would be useful to you to have the information so that it can be used. In the meantime, it is a bit tricky to give a clear answer as to how to use it - as I need to get the open source principles clear first (I will be presenting about this in Chicago at the American Schools of Planning Conference this summer, so it is indeed a project on the go).
in the meantime, I attach some articles which you can use as a reference, in case you have not yet come across these (out of interest, where did you find out about DesignWays?).
A very immediate project is that I am launching Thinkit, a social enterprise to make the hands-on toolkit that emerged from developing DesignWays available for use in workshops and planning - let me know if this may be of interest to your group (it would be great to have an early adopter in the States). www.thinkit.org.uk
I am about to go to meetings in Cambridge and London for a few days, so if I don't respond again immediately, forgive me, but I wanted to at least respond while I noticed my lapse.
Thanks again for your interest, and do let me know what you are planning so that we can see if there is a good way to work together. I am indeed interested in Alan Savory's work, so I hope we will have further conversations.
Best wishes,
Joanne
